Declaration of the World Peoples Youth Konference
We, the delegations and organizations participating in the World Peoples
Youth Conference (WPYC) under the theme: “Youth of all countries unite for
the cause of a free world, against imperialist-capitalist exploitation and
aggression,” make this declaration.
The WPYC which was held in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands on 3-4 March 2007
was a great success. The objectives of the conference were achieved with
the dynamic and productive efforts of all the participating organizations
from many countries.
The major contradictions in the world today are intensifying. These
contradictions are between imperialists and the oppressed people of the
world; between the monopoly capitalists and the working people; and among
imperialists in their rivalry for world domination.
These contradictions have intensified amidst the worst crisis of the world
capitalist-imperialist system in many years. The so-called free market
globalization has not solved the internal contradictions of the capitalist
system but only aggravated them. Among the most striking features of this
crisis is the sharp widening of the gap between rich and poor countries
and between the rich and the poor peoples within countries. The rich
countries with only 20% of the world’s population consume 80% of the
world’s resources.
In reaction to this crisis, the monopoly capitalists have intensified
their exploitation and oppression of their own working people and the
peoples in underdeveloped countries which serve as their neocolonies. The
capitalists use speed ups and long-working hours to extract more profits
from the workers. The imperialist countries extract superprofits from the
neocolonies through international usury, unequal trade and direct
investments.
As the leading imperialist power in the world, the US has launched wars of
aggression both to pump-prime its economy and to impose its will on the
world. It has used the so-called war on terror to put down any resistance
to its imperialist aims. The other lesser imperialists go along with the
US in these wars of aggression but are angry that the US monopolizes the
spoils of war as in Iraq and Afghanistan. They make their own maneuvers
thus intensifying the inter-imperialist rivalry for the redivision of the
world.
It is mainly the working people that bear the burden of the crisis of the
world capitalist-imperialist system. In the underdeveloped countries, the
workers suffer from massive unemployment and under-employment, low wages
and deprivation of social benefits and democratic rights. The peasant
masses, already suffering from landlessness and poverty, see the further
destruction of their livelihood as trade liberalization allow cheap
imports to drive their farm products out of the market. In the developed
capitalist countries, the workers suffer from growing unemployment and see
their hard-won benefits and democratic rights taken away by the ruling
class.
The youth from the families of the toiling masses are among the worst hit
by these intensified attacks on the people.
In the underdeveloped countries, the great majority of the youth from
worker and peasant families have no access to secondary and tertiary level
of education. Forced by circumstances, many leave school at an early age.
They have to work in the farms, in factories or in some menial jobs to
help their parents eke out a living. In the developed countries,
government cutbacks on the budget for education and privatization of
schools have made it more and more difficult for the youth to avail of
higher-level education and training.
The youth are among the most affected by unemployment. According to the
International Labor Organization (ILO), youth between the ages of 15 and
24 represent nearly half of the world‘s jobless, or make up the 47% of the
total 186 million people who were without work in 2003. 80% of the world‘s
youth live in developing countries where they are 3.8 times more likely to
be unemployed than adults, as compared with 2.3 times in industrialized
economies.
Under the oppressive imperialist system, the youth of the world have a
bleak and uncertain future.
But the working class and oppressed peoples and nations including the
youth are fighting back. The armed liberation struggles, and the armed
resistance in Palestine and Iraq strike the hardest blows against
imperialism and provide an inspiration to other struggling peoples. There
is an upsurge in the militant struggles of the working class in the
industrial capitalist countries. Youth are at the forefront of the student
uprisings in France, Greece and Chile.
We, the youth of the world long for liberation from the oppressive and
inhuman system that is imperialism. We face a long and difficult struggle
ahead. We have to develop the movements in our own countries and link up
with those of other countries to amplify our strength.
During the WPYC, we exchanged experiences and learned important lessons
from our various struggles. We can further coordinate and share the
situation in different countries with another international working
people’s youth conference within 3 years. We will maintain contact through
a common website and an email database.
We recognize the urgent need to further strengthen our unity and broaden
the areas of cooperation and coordination of mass struggles in order to
effectively fight imperialism and reaction in our effort to build a better
world free from imperialist-capitalist exploitation and oppression.
Long Live International Solidarity!
Victory Against Imperialism belongs to the People!
